Organized by Reynaldo Anderson, Tiffany E. Barber and Stacey Robinson as a collaboration between the Black Speculative Arts Movement and NEW YORK LIVE ARTS, this two-part exhibition brings together an international cadre of artists whose work responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, anti-black violence, climate change, poor governance, trans-humanism, and an accelerating, technologically driven economic system on the verge of collapse.

Curating The End Of The World is an Afrofuturist commentary on the end of our current age and “Cyclical Chaos” as conceived by Sheree Renée Thomas, interrogating the racist pathology and corruption that influences policy around the world. This multi-part exhibition will look at the global existential risks tied to ecology, climate change, anti-blackness, medical apartheid, and responses to the dystopian present.

Curating the End of the World: Red Spring In our first online exhibition, Curating the End of the World, we spoke out about the “cyclical chaos” surrounding black lives, black art, black futures. But out of chaos, comes clarity, renewed strength and vision. Red Spring explores the circular nature of systemic racism and the public policies—public safety, health, and wealth—that adversely impacts Black, African and indigenous communities and became more visible in the wake of the social unrest following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others. This work is remembrance and resurrection, resistance and restored hope in a social, economic, and political landscape of uprisings and upheaval, strange fruit buried in scorched earth. The artists and writers gathered here ask the essential questions that plague us all. What ancient and familiar new blossoms will spring up from the change the world demands now? What sacrifices and compromises will be made in the days ahead? Red Spring evokes the clarion call for dignity, equality, and justice of Claude McKay’s classic Red Summer poem, “If We Must Die.” It speaks to the temporal and systemic changes that must come to pass throughout the diaspora in order to birth futures where black lives truly matter. CURATING THE END OF THE WORLD ARTIST: SAMUEL WALKER TITLE: AFROTECH The Nation After civil unrest hits a boiling point, The united states erupt into a new civil war, the second civil war sees high casualties on all sides and leads to the creation of two new Nation-states, The Federal States of America, and the Black Nations known affectionately as "THE NATION". The Nation fearing negative influences from their former combatants builds a massive wall and takes a policy of complete isolation. Little to no people or information escapes the walls of the nation, the nation has only trading partners with Africa and other nations of the diaspora. the world sees the Nation as poor agrarian and under the totalitarian rule of despot Queen General Ayana. Samuel walker is a Brooklyn born and raised artist. Coming from a family of artist he attended both art high school( Brooklyn Highschool of the Arts) and college (Pratt institute) . At Pratt he learned about the concept of Afrofuturism, since then he has been dedicated to the creation of art that reflects both a science and social justice perspectives. After graduating with a bachelors in fine arts Sam spent the next few years teaching himself electrical engineering and robotics, this has greatly influenced the science aspect of his afrofuturist work. She has been featured on several podcasts discussing her practice including StudioNoize and National Black Arts Festival:ReImagined. She was shortlisted for a TILA fellowship and is a Funds for Teachers Fellowship recipient, studying photography in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in San Francisco, California. She is an Honorable Mention recipient for the International Photography Awards (2019)- sponsored by the Lucie Foundation. She is a 2019 recipients of the 2019 Virginia Twinam Smith Purchase Award. In this cyberfunk novel, we accompany Zuhri, a detective from the Center for Combating Crimes of an Environmental-Human Order, in his investigation of the murder of Dr. Diop, head of Alphabio Tech's industrial bio-cleaning research, amidst spatial and social tensions between the Upper City and the Lower City and the mystery surrounding Ayomide, a character that connects Zuhri to his past. CURATING THE END OF THE WORLD ARTISTS: DR LONNY BROOKS/ AHMED BEST TITLE: AFRO-RITHMS FROM THE FUTURE Afro-Rithms from the Future is a group game and card deck developed by Afrofuturist Podcast co-producers Ahmed Best and Lonny Brooks in collaboration with game designer Eli Kosminsky. Mixing strategies from many disciplines, Afro-Rithms challenges players to imagine worlds of greater and lesser equality, justice, and communality — among many other possible values and conditions — and to populate these worlds with new objects and ideas that may arise accordingly. Fathomers is supporting Brooks, Best, and Kosminsky in the ongoing public play-testing and refinement of the game for eventual public release and distribution as a school curriculum tool. To date, the game has been presented at the Institute for the Future, in Palo Alto; Dynamicland, in Oakland; Black Speculative Arts Movement festivals in Oakland and Los Angeles, in Leimert Park; and at NeueHouse Hollywood. Actions to come include the commission of game card artwork, box art and design, and a formal launch through Kickstarter. CURATING THE END OF THE WORLD ARTIST: TIFFANY NELSON TITLE: LIGATURE (a short film) An Afrofuturistic Artist and Communications Consultant that is deeply invested in the multivariates that exist in and around #thefutureofwork. Her work seeks to explore the empirical confines ever-present in the English language. She gathers that blacks never grew into it because of its absence of rhythm, contextual significance, and indirect operatives. She believes that we've expressed ourselves in a variety of other mediums, all faring considerably well, however still descending into the shadowed vices of egregious depictions and microaggressive displays.
